The studio works of Gaetano Pesce are handmade by the artist in New York City where he has been living and working since the 1980s. This selection of vessels ranges from the early 90’s up to recent works completed in January 2022 specifically for this exhibition.
Pesce’s practice is unexpected and imaginative, the design of the vase is impromptu as he pours the resin, guided by the texture and colors as it cures. This results in a direct translation of the artist’s thought process, so each vase is distinctly unique.

The 06 collection derives from a process of ceramic experimentation with low-temperature clay. In the manufacture of bricks (the most modest and ordinary material unit in construction), the use of local clay in firewood is common. Each clay changes its composition depending on the geological conditions that originate each vein. These pieces are possible thanks to the specific chemical characteristics of the local clay used for this collection.

Through a continuous burning of 80 hours in a traditional wood oven. The clay changes its chemical structure and the silica within can melt and thus looks more like glass than clay. This is commonly considered an error that converts the result of burning to waste. With some slight alterations in this ancient traditional technique, the artist takes advantage of this “error” and causes the "error" getting sculptural pieces of solid clay, partially melted. The final result is sculpted to obtain sculptures, functional objects and furniture with a strong material presence and volcanic appearance.

Edition of 10 DUCTOS (DUCTS) are pieces of reinforced concrete that can be displayed individually or as a group. Coffee table, bed end, bench, interior or exterior — this is a versatile piece where the function is bestowed by the user. The shape is inspired by hydraulics engineering and the massive containers for water transportation, here repurposed as an adaptable design object.
